Recognition of Dr. Charles Kandie at the 1st SQHK Scientific Conference
One of the most memorable moments of the 1st SQHK Scientific Conference was the special recognition of Dr charles kandie for his extraordinary contribution to Quality and Patient Safety in Kenya. As the citation was read, the room paused to honour a leader whose three decades of service have shaped policy, strengthened systems, and influenced the national direction of quality assurance and regulation.
Dr. Kandie’s distinguished career—from his early days in pharmaceutical services, through senior leadership at KEMSA, the Pharmacy and Poisons Board, WHO, and now as Acting Director in the Directorate of Health Standards, Quality Assurance and Regulation—has left an indelible mark on Kenya’s health sector. His instrumental role in the development of the Quality of Care Certification Framework (2019) stood out as a landmark achievement.
In recognition of this exceptional service, SQHK presented Dr. Kandie with a sculpted elephant, symbolising strength, wisdom, resilience, and leadership. The elephant—an emblem of steady progress and enduring impact—reflected the qualities Dr. Kandie has embodied throughout his career.
